The FIGHT for The RIGHT!

Nanacy Pelosi on HER first year as Speaker of The House, The 2nd in Series

Nancy Pelosi, Speaker of the House of Representatives

One Year in Charge of Congress

In speaking about the first year of the Democrats in control of Congress, Nancy Pelosi who was chosen Speaker of The House of Representatives answered some questions about the happenings in her initial year in office. This is the second in a series where the answers to the questions are hers and the comments are mine.

She was asked about the infighting in the last year between the Republicans and Democrats in Congress and if she felt that is why there was such a Congressional “deadlock”. Can the two parties get along?

Her answer was “that almost 75% on the Democrat agenda in the House was passed with broad bipartisan support. It’s critical to outline where the differences are, but I live by the adage that we will find common ground where we can and we will stand our ground where we cannot”. (In other words, THEY will not cooperate but expect the Republicans to consent to do so)

The agenda that the Democrats publicized when elected would be passed in the first 100 hours has not for the most part come to fruition. First, let me say that the “first 100 hours” is NOT 100 hours as you and I know it, it is 100 Congressional hours or probably 3 or 4 weeks.

One of the big- issues was pay as you go spending or if you spent money it was to be offset with a similar spending cut. Earmarks were to go away. In reality the earmarks have not gone away and possibly they have increased in number and dollar amount. In a previous article I noted that Hillary Clinton was the earmark queen with $500 million worth requested at year end 2007. Some of the most flagrant abusers of earmarks according to Concerned Citizens Against Government Waste are current Presidential candidates such as Biden, Clinton, Dodd, Kucinich and even Edwards when he was a Senator.

In Pelosi’s own House of Representatives, CCAGW has labeled the following 8 Democrats as “Porkers” in 2007: Peterson, Minn., Farr, Ca. Murtha, Pa., Baucus, Mont., Feinstein, Ca., Oberstar, Minn., Clyburn, S.C., and Lincoln, Ark. There were 2 Republicans named and 2 House Subcommittees as well. CCAGW defines their label of “Porker” as one who willfully neglects proper use of tax monies and sheer arrogance of their conduct. I guess this is evidence that Nancy Pelosi’s “pay as you go” policy and her elimination of earmarks mean absolutely nothing when it comes to application by fellow Democrats.

Of the 75% of the Democratic agenda bills that she claimed were passed with “broad bi-partisan support”, many were changed or diluted so the Republicans would vote for them. Then they went to the Senate where the Democrats did not have the 60 votes needed to pass a bill in most cases. Here they were again modified and if passed sent to the President who, in many cases either simply did not sign the bill or he vetoed it. I would ask the question of Ms. Pelosi; Of the 75% of the bills that you claim passed with “broad bi-partisan support”, how many ACTUALLY became law?

“Loose” Change!

When you take a close look at the current race for President and concentrate on the Democratic Party candidates they ALL are talking about CHANGE as the base for their platform. If I am not mistaken Senator Barack Obama is the candidate who started the idea of making CHANGE as a campaign slogan and the others picked up on it due to them thinking that was part of the cause for Obama’s celebrity. The problem is they all advocate CHANGE but aside from saying they are for a CHANGE in leadership in Washington (isn’t that what the election is all about anyway?) they don’t expand on much else. Obama’s campaign slogan is “CHANGE we can believe in”. Clinton says “I believe in CHANGE”. Edwards, in a campaign speech recently is quoted as saying “Obama believes deeply in CHANGE and I believe deeply in CHANGE” (sounds like his looking for spot #2 on Obama’s ticket to me). The rest of the candidates should make a great CHANGE and get off trying to win the nomination as they have as much chance of winning as Jesse Jackson did when he ran in 1988!What form of CHANGE then are they talking about? One can only guess that is must have to do with some of the programs they have bandied about in their stump speeches and the propaganda their staff hands out to gullible voters. They want to CHANGE the war on terrorism (some candidates say there is no terrorism so why wage war on something that is not there). Some are talking about a CHANGE in immigration laws to make it easier to gain citizenship and others are going to make a CHANGE so everyone has healthcare and on and on it goes. The only thing I can see happening with the CHANGES I have mentioned as well as the others I have not is that they cost money. Money the government does not have. So, where will the money come from? I will tell you: they will borrow it and then they will raise our taxes in order to pay back the debt and then we will have only LOOSE CHANGE left in our pockets to spend after we get our paychecks!

I see absolutely no CHANGE here at all. It is the usual tax and spend policy of the left.

This is for all of you OBAMA BOMBERS and HUCKABEE HOUNDS!!

When I look at the results and read the articles in the news, listen to the commentators and the candidates themselves, I am solidly reminded of the cliché “It ain’t over till the fat lady sings”. While that refers to an opera, it is apropos for an election, especially one as unusual as Election 2008! There are 305 days until November 4, 2008 – the BIG election! The last poll! The big enchilada! The day after that is the day we can say who won. Iowa is NOT indicative of the outcome. It does just both candidates a BOOST for New Hampshire on the 8th but it does not say OBAMA will won in November. It does not say HUCKABEE will win in November. One thing that Iowa being over does do is tells the “also rans” like Dodd, Kucinich, Gravel, Paul, Thompson, McCain and Hunter that they may be finished and gives them the opportunity to urge their supporters to turn support to one of the leaders. This is big but not huge as there is no mandate that the supporters follow the advice.

So all you Obama Bombers and Huckabee Hounds, remember the cliché “It ain’t over until the fat lady sings” and she don’t sing until November 4th!

It Appears Huckabee Aint’ so Hot!

The following is an excerpt from Real Clear Politics showing the amoung Net people, Huckabee just ain’t makin’ it! I would urge you to go to http://www.realclearpolitics.com and check out the complete story and a great site.

“So, how do we evaluate the contrast between Huckabee’s rise in national polls versus his lackluster reception in the righty blogosphere?

RCP.jpg

Real Clear Politics’ John McIntyre says Huckabee has benefited because: “I suspect the voters have been very much turned off by the recent nastiness between Giuliani and Romney.”

Sounds a lot like this morning’s post on how John Edwards is potentially benefiting from the Obama-Clinton cage match.”

Hope Rides Alone

This was sent to me from a friend via email and I felt that I should do my part to help the world to read it. I can only assume it is genuine, I have no way to verify but on the chance that it is not, the message still rings loud and clear:

“Let’s stop all the political nonsense, let’s stop all the bickering,
let’s stop all the bad news, and let’s stand and fight!”

This young leader had a lot to say. Too bad he did not survive and go
on to provide his leadership to many others.

Here’s young man, young in years but wisdom far beyond his age. He was
killed in Iraq but left some words that need to be read. Not to take a
few minutes to do that would be a disservice to his sacrifice.

Please read and pass on to anyone you like

Very meaty piece of commentary from a fallen Warrior……

*************************************************************************

SGT. Edmund John Jeffers last few words were some of the most touching,
inspiring and most truthful words spoken since the tragedy of 9/11 – and
since our nation went to war.
SGT. Jeffers was a strong soldier and talented writer. He died in Iraq
on September 19, 2007. He was a loving husband, brother and son. His
service was more than this country could ever grasp – but the least you
can do for the man who sacrificed his life for you … is listen to what
he had to say.
Listen up and pay attention to all of the Cindy Sheehan’s and Al
Franken’s of the world. To MSNBC, CNN, and CBS. To all who call
themselves Americans …Hope Rides Alone.

Hope Rides Alone
By Eddie Jeffers

I stare out into the darkness from my post, and I watch the city burn to
the ground. I smell the familiar smells, I walk through the familiar
rubble, and I look at the frightened faces that watch me pass down the
streets of their neighborhoods. My nerves hardly rest; my hands are
steady on a device that has been given to me from my government for the
purpose of taking the lives of others. I sweat, and I am tired. My back
aches from the loads I carry. Young American boys look to me to direct
them in a manner that will someday allow them to see their families
again…and yet, I too, am just a boy….my age not but a few years more
than that of the ones I lead. I am stressed, I am scared, and I am
paranoid…because death is everywhere. It waits for me, it calls to me
from around street corners and windows, and it is always there.
There are the demons that follow me, and tempt me into thoughts and
actions that are not my own…but that are necessary for survival. I’ve
made compromises with my humanity. And I am not alone in this. Miles
from me are my brethren in this world, who walk in the same
streets…who feel the same things, whether they admit to it or not. And
to think, I volunteered for this… And I am ignorant to the rest of the
world…or so I thought.

But even thousands of miles away, in Ramadi , Iraq , the cries and
screams and complaints of the ungrateful reach me. In a year, I will be
thrust back into society from a life and mentality that doesn’t fit your
average man. And then, I will be alone. And then, I will walk down the
streets of America, and see the yellow ribbon stickers on the cars of
the same people who compare our President to Hitler. I will watch the
television and watch the Cindy Sheehan’s, and the Al Franken’s, and the
rest of the ignorant sheep of America spout off their mouths about a
subject they know nothing about.
It is their right, however, and it is a
right that is defended by hundreds of thousands of boys and girls
scattered across the world, far from home. I use the word boys and
girls, because that’s what they are. In the Army, the average age of the
infantryman is nineteen years old. The average rank of soldiers killed
in action is Private First Class. People like Cindy Sheehan are
ignorant. Not just to this war, but to the results of their idiotic
ramblings, or at least I hope they are. They don’t realize its effects
on this war. In this war, there are no Geneva Conventions, no cease
fires. Medics and Chaplains are not spared from the enemy’s brutality
because it’s against the rules. I can only imagine the horrors a
military Chaplain would experience at the hands of the enemy. The enemy
slinks in the shadows and fights a coward’s war against us. It is
effective though, as many men and women have died since the start of
this war. And the memory of their service to America is tainted by the
inconsiderate remarks on our nation’s news outlets. And every day, the
enemy changes…only now, the enemy is becoming something new. The enemy
is transitioning from the Muslim extremists to Americans. The enemy is
becoming the very people whom we defend with our lives. And they do not
realize it. But in denouncing our actions, denouncing our leaders,
denouncing the war we live and fight, they are isolating the military
from society…and they are becoming our enemy.

Democrats and peace activists like to toss the word “quagmire” around
and compare this war to Vietnam. In a way they are right, this war is
becoming like Vietnam. Not the actual war, but in the isolation of
country and military. America is not a nation at war; they are a nation
with its military at war. Like it or not, we are here, some of us for
our second, or third times; some even for their fourth and so on.
Americans are so concerned now with politics, that it is interfering
with our war. Terrorists cut the heads off of American citizens on the
Internet…and there is no outrage, but an American soldier kills an
Iraqi in the midst of battle,
and there are investigations, and
sometimes soldiers are even jailed…for doing their job. It is
absolutely sickening to me to think our country has come to this. Why
are we so obsessed with the bad news? Why will people stop at nothing to
be against this war, no matter how much evidence of the good we’ve done
is thrown in their face? When is the last time CNN or MSNBC or CBS
reported the opening of schools and hospitals in Iraq? Or the leaders of
terror cells being detained or killed? It’s all happening, but people
will not let up their hatred of Bush. They will ignore the good news,
because it just might show people that Bush was right.

America has lost its will to fight. It has lost its will to defend what
is right and just in the world. The crazy thing of it all is that the
American people have not even been asked to sacrifice a single thing.
It’s not like World War Two, where people rationed food, and turned in
cars to be made into metal for tanks. The American people have not been
asked to sacrifice anything. Unless you are in the military or the
family member of a service member, its life as usual…the war doesn’t
affect you. But it affects us. And when it is over, and the troops come
home, and they try to piece together what’s left of them after their
service…where will the detractors be then? Where will the Cindy
Sheehan’s be to comfort and talk to soldiers and help them sort out the
last couple years of their lives, most of which have been spent dodging
death and wading through the deaths of their friends? They will be where
they always are, somewhere far away, where the horrors of the world
can’t touch them. Somewhere where they can complain about things they
will never experience in their lifetime; things that the young men and
women of America have willingly taken upon their shoulders.

We are the hope of the Iraqi people. They want what everyone else wants
in life: safety, security, somewhere to call home. They want a country
that is safe to raise their children in. Not a place where their
children will be abducted, raped, and murdered if they do not comply
with the terrorists demands. They want to live on, rebuild and prosper.
And America has given them the opportunity, but only if we stay true to
the cause, and see it to its end. But the country must unite in this
endeavor…we cannot place the burden on our military alone. We must all
stand up and fight, whether in uniform or not. And supporting us is more
than sticking yellow ribbon stickers on your cars. It’s supporting our
President, our troops and our cause.

Right now, the burden is all on the American soldiers. Right now, hope
rides alone. But it can change, it must change. Because there is only
failure and darkness ahead for us as a country, as a people, if it
doesn’t.
Let’s stop all the political nonsense, let’s stop all the bickering,
let’s stop all the bad news, and let’s stand and fight!

Eddie’s father, David Jeffers, writes:
I’m not sure how many letters or articles you’ve ever read from the
genre of “News from the Front,” but this is one of the best I’ve ever
read, including all of America’s wars. As I was reading this, I forgot
that it was my son who had written it. My emotions range from great
pride to great sorrow, knowing that my little boy (22 years old) has
become this man. He is my hero. Thank all of you for your prayers for
him; he needs them now more than ever. God bless.

Though Eddie is no longer with us, you can help to let his voice be

Healthcare and Election 2008

Healthcare is and should be one of the top issues for the 2008 Election. However,  the voting public is not concerned with quality heathcare, they are not concerned with where the Doctors are coming from or even how all the wonderful things the candidates spout in their campaign promises are going to occur. They are concerned that THEY WON’T HAVE TO PAY! That is what they are being told and because FREE in this country tops all the rest, FREE is what they want.

The medical profession is not the high income, glamorous profession it once was. In fact, Doctors make less now than some teachers when you consider the NET SPENDABLE dollars. Many Doctors do their work because they LOVE IT!

This universal healthcare that the candidates bandy about is nothing but socialized medicine. We don’t need it, we don’t want it in America. The candidates would not go to one of the universal healthcare doctors, clinics or hospitals, they will not be good enough. The candidates, elected or not, will go to their “private medical delivery sources” and recieve top shelf care wnile the public gets less than adaquate care under unicersal healthcare. Don’t think for a minute that any President or Senator would accept anything but the best care for themselves and their families. That will not be so for John Q citizen. Eventually our healthcare delivery systems will deteriate to equal those in third world countries.

Edwards Dishonors The Military

Presidential hopeful John Edwards said Monday that Americans should speak out against the war in Iraq this Memorial Day weekend. The  leader of the powerful American Legion was highly critical of Edwards inappropriate message on this, Memorial Day, that was set aside to reflect on the sacrifice of the American military. In my opinion, ALL AMERICANS should be incensed at Edwards deplorable comments!

Edwards also stated that ALL  young people should serve their country, “not just poor kids who get sent to war.” It sounds as though he wants to re-institute the draft!!! It also sounds as though he thinks only “poor kids” get sent to war! That must really upset those Americans serving who have gone through years of education and training in fields such as law or medicine (my nephew who is a surgeon, graduated from the University of Chicago Medical School and was in private practice on the left coast, volunteered for military service and specifically requested duty in Iraq).

Possibly Edwards was thinking of those who can’t afford $400.00 haircuts or $28 Million dollar houses as being “poor” and that is why he made that statement. NOT! He wants “mandatory service” for all Americans! I would bet that “mandatory for all Americans” does not include the members of The Edwards family!!!

The only conflict that John Edwards is concerned with is the one he is engaged in trying to get the nomination from the Democratic Party for 2008 and he IS worried that Obama or Clinton have “more juice”.

John Edwards is a JOKE!
