Is Congressman Jefferson Headed for Prison?

Congressman Will Jefferson, the Member of The U.S. House of Representatives who was found to be hiding $90,000.00 in neatly wrapped bundles in his home freezer is apparently headed to the “cooler” himself!

This has nothing to do with race, he is black, so what? The reason he is being tried and apparently will be convicted  is not because he was singled out as an African-American, it’s because he is facing a 16 count indictment for 1)racketeering, 2) money laundering 3) soliciting bribes 4) paying bribes 5) conspiracy 6) wire fraud 7) Violation of The Foreign Corrupt Practices Act and 8) obstruction of justice. In addition to the cold hard cash in his freezer, the Government has cooperating witnesses, one of whom confessed to his part in the bribery schemes and is serving his sentence.

He was involved in the corruption of his office from August 2000 to August 2005 when he was arrested. He prostituted his office and his position for personal gain. He betrayed those whom he was supposed to represent. He could, if prosecuted for and convicted of the aforementioned crimes, receive a maximum penalty of 235 years in prison.

Now, we all know he will not receive 235 years in prison, he is a Democratic Louisiana Congressmen who was in his 8th term in the House. He was on the powerful Ways and Means committee before he stepped down at the “request” of a very embarrassed Nancy pelosi, House Democratic Leader at  the time. I believe there is no doubt that he will benefit from his “friends in high places” when sentencing time comes around. He will get a softball sentence at some country club type prison and a much shorter term.

What must be remembered is that regardless of what is said, what is being fed to the public by the press, this man is being tried for HIS CRIMES not for any racial reasons. He allegedly did wrong and if found guilty, he has to pay.
